A packed crowd heard our leading Conservative MEP, Geoffrey Van Orden, give a rousing speech after our usual Christmas fayre.
Geoffrey managed to squeeze us in on his way to Strasbourg. What luck! The timing of his visit, just after the veto exercised by David Cameron last Friday, led to a fascinating background on the whole situation.
Geoffrey pointed out that he, and our other MEPs, fully supported the move by the Prime Minister. In addition he was working towards even greater savings and less bureaucracy in the EU. Geoffrey is a former military man, and was very worried about the steps being taken by the EU, to promote a European Army. He also had fears for the Eurozone, and felt that sooner or later there would be 2 zones in Europe, the Northern AAA rated countries, and the southern Euro.
He also commented on growing dissatisfaction in many EU Countries, including Germany and France, by citizens growing tired of the continued EU incursions into their lives.
Geoffrey answered many questions from the audience, and the vote of thanks was given by Cllr Lynda Needham, Leader of North Herts District Council.
Oliver Heald MP was in the Commons to support the Prime Minister in his statement to MPs on the veto, but we were delighted that Christine Heald was present to support the event.
Geoffrey was sent on his way to Strasbourg with ringing endorsement of his continuing fight to get the best deal for Britain in Europe!
